XVII. The Rational Mind the Gift of Lucifer and its Future Transformation into a New Kind of Clairvoyance
Today we'll consider the functions ascribed to some spiritual entities known as luciferic spirits. We'll find that they have some strange connections with humanity. Our starting point shall be the fact that the science of thinking, of reflection, goes back no further than 800 or 900 years before Christ. Anyone who studies the history of philosophy knows that it began with Thales,138Thales ... Aristotle, see Steiner R. The Riddles of Philosophy (GA 18). Tr. F. C. A. Kölln. New York: Anthroposophic Press 1973. who lived in about 600 BC and once predicted a solar eclipse on the basis of his nature studies. This was something highly unusual at the time. The philosophy of western logic only came with Aristotle. Before that no doctrine existed about thinking, for thinking itself, abstract rational thinking, only began to dawn in 600 - 800 BC. Seeds of it were already there in the Atlantean race. We do, of course, know that the Chaldeans, ancient Egyptians and other Orientals knew astronomy, but this came from the deeper roots of clairvoyance.
The rational mind thus only developed half a millennium before Christ, and this had to do with changes in the form of relationships and marriage. These used to be very different from the way they are today. Scientists have established that even among the savage tribes of America the relationship between cousins is much more complex than it is with us. Thus the Iroquois call cousins on their father's side brothers and sisters but not those on their mother's side, the reason being that men who are of the same age in a family could have all women of the same age for their wives. One would thus know exactly who a child's mother was, but not its father. The Iroquois still see family relationships in this way today. It needs occult knowledge to give the right explanation for this. We know that things happened in 800 - 900 BC which indicate that marriage among blood relations changed to become marriage outside the family. Before, the head of a family was the father of the tribe. These ways still survived among the ancient Germans at a much later time, when people in Africa and in Mediterranean countries were already marrying outside the family. In medieval times the transition to marrying outside the family was glorified in legends such as the Gudrunlied139Middle high German epic. In his Germania, Tacitus wrote of ancient German tribes having one ancestor. Later this custom ceased, and in the Gudrunlied kings go to distant countries to look for wives. In the Siegfried legend140Siegfried (Sigurd), folk hero of early and medieval German mythology. His legend provided the source material for several epics, among them the Vblsungasaga and the Nibelungenlied. we have a description of the way the new order rose in opposition to marriage between blood relations. The marriage of Siegmund and Sieglinde was rejected by the goddess Frigg, wife of Odin. Odin established the principle of marriage outside the tribe. This was introduced at different times among different peoples, but there is a strange connection between the transition to this principle and the emergence of rational thinking. An occult thesis is that marriage outside the tribe kills part of the ether body—the forebrain comes to life, whilst the ancient clairvoyance, which was enhanced by intermarriage, dies away. People began to take a rational view of things. Today humanity has adapted to marriage outside family and tribe, just as in earlier times it was adapted to intermarriage. The latter has a harmful effect on the mental faculties of the children, and above all on the sense organ connected with the development of intellectual faculties, the eye. This is why intermarriage often results in blindness. Mental faculties only improve with marriage outside the family.
This physiological fact is closely linked with human evolution. It was necessary to prepare for the coming of the Christ. Could this have come about under different conditions? It brought love of one soul for another, with one soul influencing the other. Love among blood relations had to be overcome first. Nations will altogether only be ripe to receive Christianity once they have overcome love among blood relations. The initiates of ancient Egypt always came from the same family, for many generations. The earlier wisdom was intuitive by nature, which becomes all the more evident the further one goes back in human evolution. Reflection based on the intellect is connected with the basis of Christianity.
Let us now consider how the gods related to human beings. As evolution progresses, human beings will be gods, and the gods have also gone through a form of human evolution, different from our own, on other planets, but certainly something similar. Those who are at a higher level evolve on the basis of those who are at a lower level—man and animal live on the plant, this in turn on the mineral. There could be no gods if it were not for human beings. The relationship between them is of the same kind. What do the gods need of us? They feed on our love. The division into two sexes developed. The true meaning of nectar and ambrosia, food for the gods, is the love between man and woman. This reflects an occult truth.
Between the gods and human beings are spirits who did not complete their evolution at the same time as the gods, remaining behind, as it were, in the school of evolution. These are the luciferic spirits. They have fanned a higher level of spiritual independence into life in human beings. They taught them to rise against the gods, developing the part in them that does not feed the gods. Lucifer therefore appears as the serpent in the story of paradise, and Jehovah's punishment is that human beings shall bear their children in pain.141Genesis 3: 16 The cohorts of Lucifer continued to influence intellectual development. Anything they did not achieve earlier, they made up for when marriage outside the family became the custom. The old law established order among human beings. Lucifer was set free 800 or 900 years before Christ, and the inner powers of the soul then began to unfold. The Christ came as the representative of the new order. The external law was given on Sinai, the inner law, grace, is given to those who have been set free by the Christ. That is how humanity progresses—the luciferic principle had to develop more and more in them.
Outer science is to be made free through theosophy, with knowledge deepened to become wisdom. The name Lucifer suggests the principle of independence. This is why Mrs Blavatsky142Blavatsky, Helena Petrovna, née Hahn (1831–91), Russian theosophist. Founded the Theosophical Society with Henry Steel Olcott in New York in 1875. Her journal Lucifer first appeared in 1887 gave that name to her first journal, and we have done the same, to make the principle known. Differences between nations will wear off more and more, and the first sentence in the principles of the Theosophical Society will come into force: to be the core for human brotherhood.143First objective of the Theosophical Society: 4To form a nucleus of the universal brotherhood ofhumanity, without distinction of race, creed, sex, caste or colour? Love among blood relations will be progressively overcome and people will look more for soul relationships. Souls will find one another across vast distances. The further development and transformation of the rational mind will bring a new form of clairvoyance in future. Overcoming sexual love will at first mean isolation. The chela has to be uprooted—the great overcoming of all feelings of relationship—that is the function of the luciferic principle.

The Indian caste system is based on knowledge of karma. The clairvoyant guides of the Indian nation foresaw the destined caste of an individual so that each was born into the appropriate caste. As the intellect develops with people marrying outside the family, conscious clairvoyance will develop and by the end of the sixth sub-race people will be organized in moral castes. With the next sub-race, all love between blood relations will vanish. The gods will be deprived of food and withdraw progressively from humanity, moving on to higher stages of evolution. Human beings will be guided by their masters, who have risen from the ranks of humanity, as it were, but have consciously evolved more quickly. These divine guides do not need human love to feed them, and sexual love will thus come to an end.
If the luciferic principle had not come into effect, the earth would gradually have become a cinder, like the moon, dead and desolate. This should not happen, and man himself will prevent it, reshaping the earth. When human beings first appeared, the earth was not as it is today. In Lemuria there were no dead, rigid metals and rocks; everything was flowing, rivers of metals flowed through the mountains, which we can still see quite clearly today. The miners who are in intimate touch with the inner earth know this, which makes them the best spiritualists. Many plants were still animals then, and milk, the food for man, flowed freely. In our infancy we go through this stage again unconsciously. We must, however, return to this form of taking nourishment in a conscious way. This is why it was said: ‘Unless you become as little children.’144Mark 10: 14; Matthew 18: 17. Milk and a plant-based diet call up occult powers of healing, and future physicians will have to feed themselves in this way, that is, eat all the things that reach out for the sun. Indian physicians immunize themselves against snakebite by letting snakes bite them. They are then able to heal snakebite in others. Our food will be mineral by nature. Physiological initiates already live on a mineral diet. There are different kinds of initiates—those who teach wisdom, and among others those who work on improving the blood of humanity, the physiological initiates. They need not be specially clever in other directions, but their feeling for physiology is highly developed. We should only eat the parts of plants and animals that do not contain their vital energies—not their roots, therefore, nor meat, but fruit and milk and leaves. Anything that grows above ground, thriving in the sun and eaten by cows, is the right food. Minerals that form deposits should not be eaten, that is, no salts, only water. Physiological occultists watch over the blood transition to the next race.
In the last century, since Frederic the Great, we have developed ten times as fast as in the thousand years from Charlemagne to Frederic the Great, and evolution will continue to speed up in this way. The sixth sub-race is developing in Russia. Non-belief is a great obstacle to development.

In the course of evolution, man will govern his body from the outside, carry it with him like a snail its shell, in a way, work on it and transform it. This is something he is already doing in his sleep today.
Der Verstand als Gabe Luzifers und Seine Künftige Umwandlung in ein Neues Hellsehen
Heute wollen wir von den Funktionen reden, die man gewissen geistigen Wesenheiten zuschreibt, die man luziferische nennt. Wir werden da auf merkwürdige Zusammenhänge stoßen, die sie mit der Menschheit haben. Zum Ausgangspunkt nehmen wir die Tatsache, daß die Wissenschaft vom Denken, von der Überlegung, nicht weiter als achthundert bis neunhundert Jahre vor Christus zurückgeht. Wer die Geschichte der Philosophie studiert, weiß, daß dieselbe mit Thales beginnt, der um 600 vor Christus lebte und einmal eine Sonnenfinsternis nach naturwissenschaftlichen Beobachtungen voraussagte, was damals noch etwas Aufßergewöhnliches war. Die Philosophie der abendländischen Logik haben wir erst seit Aristoteles. Vorher gab es keine Lehre über das Denken, denn das Denken selber, der abstrakte Verstand dämmerte erst 600 bis 800 vor Christus herauf. Keime dazu waren natürlich schon in der atlantischen Rasse enthalten. Wir haben allerdings schon eine Astronomie bei den Chaldäern, den alten Ägyptern und andern Orientalen, doch stammte diese aus den tieferen Anlagen des Hellsehens.
Ein halbes Jahrtausend vor Christus kommt also erst der Verstand herauf, und diese Tatsache hängt mit der Abänderung aller Verwandtschafts- und Eheformen zusammen. Diese waren ganz andere als heutzutage. Noch bei wilden Völkern Amerikas hat die Wissenschaft konstatiert, daß die Verwandtschaft von Vettern und Cousinen eine viel kompliziertere ist als bei uns. Die Irokesen zum Beispiel nennen Vettern und Cousinen väterlicherseits Geschwister, muütterlicherseits jedoch nicht, aus dem Grunde, weil die gleichaltrigen Männer einer Familie alle gleichaltrigen Frauen zu Frauen haben konnten, man also innerhalb einer Familie wohl die Mutter eines Kindes genau kannte, aber nicht den Vater. Die Irokesen haben noch heutzutage diese verwandtschaftlichen Beziehungen und Bezeichnungen. Nur der Okkultismus kann die richtige Erklärung für diese Verhältnisse geben. 800 bis 900 vor Christus haben wir Tatsachen zu verzeichnen, die darauf deuten, daß nunmehr aus der Verwandtschaftsehe die Fernehe wurde. Früher war ein Oberhaupt der Familie der Vater des Stammes. Noch bei den Germanen finden wir in viel späteren Zeiten diese Einrichtungen, während in Afrika und in den Ländern um das Mittelmeer herum schon zur Fernehe übergegangen wird. Im Mittelalter finden wir in den deutschen Sagen, zum Beispiel im Gudrunlied, diesen Übergang zur Fernehe verherrlicht. Tacitus spricht in seiner «Germania» noch von den deutschen Stämmen mit einem Ahnherrn. Dieser Gebrauch wird später gebrochen, und im Gudrunlied ziehen die Könige in ferne Länder, um ihre Frauen zu suchen. In der Siegfriedsage haben wir eine Schilderung davon, wie sich die neue Ordnung auflehnt gegen die Blutsverwandtschaftsehe: Siegmund und Sieglinde, deren Ehe von Frigga verworfen wird. Wotan ist der Begründer der Fernehe. Bei den verschiedenen Völkern ist die Fernehe zu verschiedenen Zeiten eingeführt worden, aber es existiert ein eigenartiger Zusammenhang zwischen dem Übergang zur Fernehe und der Ausbildung des Verstandes. Es ist ein okkulter Satz, daß die Fernehe auf einen Teil des Ätherkörpers tötend wirkt: das Vorderhirn wird belebt, während das alte Hellsehen abgetötet wird, das durch Blutsverwandtschaftsehen wächst. Die verstandesmäfige Erfassung der Dinge erwacht. Heute ist die Menschheit der Fernehe angepaßt, wie sie es früher der Verwandtschaftsehe war. Die Verwandtenehe wirkt heute schädigend auf die geistige Tätigkeit der Kinder, besonders auf das Sinnesorgan, das mit der Verstandesentwickelung zusammenhängt, das Auge. Daher gibt es so viele Blinde in Verwandtenehen. Nur durch die Fernehe wird das Gehirn verbessert. Diese physiologische Tatsache steht in engem Zusammenhang mit der Menschheitsentwickelung. Sie war notwendig, um das Erscheinen des Christentums vorzubereiten. Hätte dieses unter andern Bedingungen entstehen können? Es bringt die Liebe der Seele zur Seele, das Wirken von Seele auf Seele. Die Blutsverwandtschaftsliebe mußte erst überwunden werden. Die Völker werden überhaupt erst reif für das Christentum werden, wenn sie die Verwandtschaftsliebe überwunden haben. Die alten Eingeweihten Ägyptens stammten immer aus der gleichen Familie innerhalb langer Generationen. Die ältere Weisheit war intuitiver Art, was um so deutlicher hervortritt, je weiter man die Menschheit zurückverfolgt. Das verstandesmäßige Überlegen hängt mit der Grundlage des Christentums zusammen.
Wie war nun das Verhältnis der Götter zu den Menschen? Die Menschen werden im Verlaufe ihrer Entwickelung Götter sein, und die Götter haben eine Art Menschheitsentwickelung durchgemacht, anders als die unsrige, auf andern Planeten, aber immerhin etwas Ähnliches. Die Höherstehenden entwickeln sich fort auf der Grundlage der niederen: Mensch und Tier leben von der Pflanze, diese vom Mineral. Nie könnten die Götter sein, wenn die Menschen nicht wären. Es besteht das gleiche Verhältnis zwischen ihnen. Was brauchen nun die Götter von uns? Sie nähren sich von unserer Liebe. Die Zweiteilung der Geschlechter tritt ein. Die wirkliche Bedeutung von Nektar und Ambrosia, der Nahrung der Götter, ist die Liebe des Mannes und der Frau. Es ist dies der Ausdruck einer okkulten Tatsache.
Zwischen Göttern und Menschen stehen nun Wesenheiten, die ihre Entwickelung nicht zu gleicher Zeit mit den Göttern vollendet haben, die sozusagen in der Schule der Evolution sitzengeblieben sind, den Menschen aber weit voraus sind. Es sind die luziferischen Wesenheiten. Sie sind die Anfacher der höheren geistigen Selbständigkeit beim Menschen. Sie erzogen ihn zum Aufruhr gegen die Götter, sie bildeten jenen Teil in ihm aus, der die Götter nicht nährt. In der Paradiesessage erscheint deshalb Luzifer als Schlange, und die Strafe Jehovas ist: «Mit Schmerzen sollst du Kinder gebären.» Die Scharen des Luzifer wirkten weiter an der Verstandeserziehung. Was sie nicht erreicht hatten, holten sie nach, als die Fernehe entstand. Nicht mehr das unfreie Blut bewirkt Liebe, sondern von außen durch Übereinstimmung der Seelen kommt sie. Wenn wir dies erwägen, wird uns auch Jehovas Walten klar: Er ordnet durch richtige Gesetze die Blutsverwandtschaft. Das alte Gesetz schafft unter den Menschen Ordnung. Luzifer wurde achthundert bis neunhundert Jahre vor Christus frei, und die innere Kraft der Seele beginnt sich zu entfalten. Christus ist der Repräsentant der neuen Ordnung. Das äußere Gesetz wurde auf dem Sinai gegeben, das innere Gesetz, die Gnade, ist denen gegeben, die befreit durch Christus sind. So ist der Fortschritt der Menschheit: immer mehr mußte sich im Menschen das luziferische Prinzip entwickeln. Die äußere Wissenschaft soll durch die Theosophie frei werden: Wissenschaft vertieft zur Weisheit. Der Name Luzifer deutet das Prinzip der Selbständigkeit an, deshalb nannte Madame Blavatsky ihre erste Zeitschrift so und deshalb heißt die unsere so, um dieses Prinzip zu dokumentieren. Mehr und mehr werden sich die Unterschiede zwischen Menschen und Völkern abschleifen und der erste Satz der Prinzipien der Theosophischen Gesellschaft in Kraft treten: den Kern einer Menschenbruderschaft zu bilden. Die Liebe der Blutsverwandtschaft wird immer mehr überwunden werden, und man wird mehr die seelischen Zusammenhänge suchen. Aus den größten Fernen werden sich die Seelen zusammenfinden. Die Weiterentwikkelung und Umwandlung des Verstandes wird uns in der Zukunft ein neues Hellsehen bringen. Das Überwinden der Geschlechtsliebe bedeutet zunächst Vereinsamung. Der Chela muß entwurzelt werden - die große Überwindung aller Verwandtschaftsgefühle, das ist die Funktion des luziferischen Prinzips.

Dem Kastenwesen der Inder liegt Kenntnis des Karma zugrunde. Die hellsehenden Führer der Inder sahen voraus, für welche Kaste das Karma den Menschen bestimmte, so daß jeder in der ihm entsprechenden Kaste geboren wurde. Mit dem aufsteigenden Verstande durch die Fernehe werden die Menschen ein bewußtes Hellsehen erlangen, und am Ende der sechsten Unterrasse werden sie sich in moralische Kasten gliedern. Mit der nächsten Unterrasse wird alle Blutsverwandtschaftsliebe schwinden. Den Göttern schwindet damit die Nahrung, sie ziehen sich mehr und mehr von den Menschen zurück zu höheren Entwickelungsstufen. Die Menschen werden weitergeführt durch ihre Meister, die sozusagen von der Pike auf in der Menschheit gedient, sich aber bewußt schneller entwickelt haben. Diese göttlichen Führer brauchen die Liebe der Menschen nicht zur Nahrung, deshalb hört die Geschlechtsliebe auf.
Wäre das luziferische Prinzip nicht in Kraft getreten, würde die Erde gleich dem Mond allmählich zur Schlacke geworden sein, tot und verödet. Das soll sie nicht, der Mensch selber wird sie davor bewahren und umgestalten. Als die Menschen auftraten, sah die Erde noch nicht aus wie jetzt. Lemurien hatte keine toten, erstarrten Metalle und Steine, alles floß, Metallflüsse durchströmten die Berge, was man jetzt noch deutlich erkennen kann. Die Bergleute, die in so intime Berührung mit dem Erdinnern kommen, verstehen das und sind deshalb immer die besten Spiritualisten. Viele Pflanzen waren damals noch Tiere, und Milch, von der die Menschen sich nährten, floß ebenfalls in freien Strömen. Als Kind machen wir unbewußt dieses Stadium noch einmal durch. Wir sollen aber bewußt zu dieser Nahrungsweise zurückkehren. Das ist ebenfalls in dem Satze beschlossen: So ihr nicht werdet wie die Kindlein. — Milch und Pflanzenkost rufen okkulte Heilkräfte wach, deshalb muß ein Arzt der Zukunft sich so nähren, das heißt von allem, was der Sonne zustrebt. Indische Ärzte machen sich immun gegen Schlangenbisse, indem sie sich von Schlangen beißen lassen, um dann bei andern diese Bisse heilen zu können. Unsere Nahrung wird mineralisch sein. Mineralisch nähren sich jetzt schon die physiologischen Eingeweihten. Es gibt verschiedene Eingeweihte: solche, die Weisheit lehren, und unter andern solche, die an der Blutsverbesserung der Menschheit arbeiten, physiologische. Diese brauchen nicht besonders klug nach anderer Richtung hin zu sein, lediglich ihr Sinn für Physiologie ist sehr entwickelt. Wir sollen nur das von Pflanzen und Tieren essen, was nicht die Lebenskraft derselben enthält, also nicht die Wurzeln, nicht das Fleisch, sondern die Früchte und die Milch, die Blätter. Was über der Erde wächst, was die Kuh ißt, das ist richtige Nahrung, was an der Sonne gedeiht. Von Mineralien esse man nicht, was sich absetzt, also kein Salz, nur Wasser. Physiologische Okkultisten wachen über den Blutsübergang zur nächsten Rasse.
Wir haben uns im letzten Jahrhundert seit Friedrich dem Großen zehnmal schneller entwickelt, als in dem Jahrtausend von Karl dem Großen bis zu Friedrich dem Großen, und die Entwickelung wird entsprechend schneller weitergehen. In Rußland bildet sich die sechste Unterrasse. Nichtglaube ist ein großes Hindernis für die Entwickelung.
Der Merkur ist der Körper gewisser großer Wesenheiten, von denen eine sich in Gautama Buddha verkörperte.
Im Verlaufe der Entwickelung wird der Mensch seinen Körper von außen regieren, ihn gewissermaßen wie die Schnecke ihr Haus mit sich tragen, an ihm arbeiten und ihn umwandeln, wie er es jetzt schon unbewußt im Schlafe tut.

Today we want to talk about the functions attributed to certain spiritual beings called Luciferic. We will encounter strange connections they have with humanity. Let us start with the fact that the science of thinking, of reasoning, does not go back further than eight hundred to nine hundred years before Christ. Anyone who studies the history of philosophy knows that it begins with Thales, who lived around 600 BC and once predicted a solar eclipse based on scientific observations, which was still something extraordinary at that time. We have only had the philosophy of Western logic since Aristotle. Before that, there was no teaching about thinking, because thinking itself, the abstract mind, only dawned between 600 and 800 BC. Between 800 and 900 BC, we have records of events that indicate that kinship marriages gave way to distant marriages. In earlier times, the head of the family was the father of the tribe. We still find these institutions among the Germanic peoples in much later times, while in Africa and the countries around the Mediterranean, distant marriage was already becoming the norm. In the Middle Ages, we find this transition to distant marriage glorified in German legends, for example in the Gudrunlied. Tacitus still speaks of the Germanic tribes with a common ancestor in his Germania. This custom was later broken, and in the Gudrunlied, the kings travel to distant lands to seek their wives. In the Siegfried saga, we have a description of how the new order rebels against marriage between blood relatives: Siegmund and Sieglinde, whose marriage is rejected by Frigga. Wotan is the founder of distant marriage. Long-distance marriage was introduced at different times among different peoples, but there is a peculiar connection between the transition to long-distance marriage and the development of the intellect. It is an occult principle that long-distance marriage has a killing effect on part of the etheric body: the forebrain is enlivened, while the old clairvoyance, which grows through blood kinship, is killed. The intellectual grasp of things awakens. Today, humanity is adapted to distant marriage, just as it was formerly adapted to kinship marriage. Today, kinship marriage has a detrimental effect on the mental activity of children, especially on the sense organ associated with intellectual development, the eye. That is why there are so many blind people in kinship marriages. Only through distant marriage is the brain improved. This physiological fact is closely related to the development of humanity. It was necessary to prepare for the emergence of Christianity. Could this have come about under other conditions? It brings about the love of soul to soul, the working of soul upon soul. The love of blood kinship had to be overcome first. Peoples will only become ready for Christianity when they have overcome kinship love. The ancient initiates of Egypt always came from the same family over many generations. The older wisdom was intuitive in nature, which becomes all the more apparent the further back one traces humanity. Intellectual superiority is connected with the foundation of Christianity.
What was the relationship between the gods and humans? In the course of their development, humans will become gods, and the gods have undergone a kind of human development, different from ours, on other planets, but still somewhat similar. The higher beings develop on the basis of the lower ones: humans and animals live off plants, which in turn live off minerals. The gods could never exist if humans did not exist. The same relationship exists between them. What do the gods need from us? They feed on our love. The division of the sexes occurs. The real meaning of nectar and ambrosia, the food of the gods, is the love of man and woman. This is the expression of an occult fact.
Between gods and humans there are now beings who did not complete their development at the same time as the gods, who, so to speak, have remained in the school of evolution, but who are far ahead of humans. These are the Luciferic beings. They are the instigators of higher spiritual independence in human beings. They educated them to rebel against the gods; they developed that part of them that does not nourish the gods. In the Paradise story, Lucifer therefore appears as a serpent, and Jehovah's punishment is: “You shall bring forth children in pain.” The hosts of Lucifer continued to work on the education of the intellect. What they had not achieved, they made up for when remote marriage came into being. It is no longer unfree blood that brings about love, but rather it comes from outside through the harmony of souls. When we consider this, Jehovah's rule also becomes clear to us: he orders blood kinship through proper laws. The old law creates order among humans. Lucifer became free eight hundred to nine hundred years before Christ, and the inner power of the soul began to unfold. Christ is the representative of the new order. The outer law was given on Sinai, the inner law, grace, is given to those who are liberated through Christ. Such is the progress of humanity: the Luciferic principle had to develop more and more in human beings. Outer science should be liberated through theosophy: science deepened into wisdom. The name Lucifer indicates the principle of independence, which is why Madame Blavatsky named her first magazine thus, and why ours is named thus, in order to document this principle. More and more, the differences between people and nations will be smoothed out and the first sentence of the principles of the Theosophical Society will come into effect: to form the nucleus of a brotherhood of humanity. The love of blood kinship will be increasingly overcome, and people will seek more spiritual connections. Souls will come together from the greatest distances. The further development and transformation of the mind will bring us new clairvoyance in the future. Overcoming sexual love initially means loneliness. The chela must be uprooted—the great overcoming of all feelings of kinship is the function of the Luciferic principle.

The caste system of the Indians is based on knowledge of karma. The clairvoyant leaders of the Indians foresaw which caste karma had determined for each person, so that everyone was born into the caste corresponding to them. With the rise of the mind through remote viewing, people will attain conscious clairvoyance, and at the end of the sixth subrace they will organize themselves into moral castes. With the next subrace, all blood kinship love will disappear. The gods will thus lose their sustenance and withdraw more and more from humans to higher stages of development. Humans will be guided by their masters, who have served humanity from the bottom up, so to speak, but have consciously developed more quickly. These divine leaders do not need the love of humans for nourishment, which is why sexual love ceases.
If the Luciferic principle had not come into force, the earth would have gradually become slag, dead and desolate, like the moon. This is not to be; human beings themselves will preserve and transform it. When humans first appeared, the Earth did not look as it does now. Lemuria had no dead, solidified metals and stones; everything flowed, metal rivers flowed through the mountains, which can still be clearly seen today. Many plants were still animals at that time, and milk, which humans fed on, also flowed freely. As children, we unconsciously go through this stage again. What grows above the ground, what the cow eats, that is proper food, what thrives in the sun. Of minerals, one should not eat what settles, i.e., no salt, only water.
